What Happens When the Signs Are Wrong

In Malaysia, safety signage is not optional — it is a legal requirement enforced by two separate regulators, each with the power to stop your business from operating. JKR requires approved safety signage on public-works and government sites. DOSH can issue a single improvement notice carrying a fine of up to RM500,000 under the OSH Amendment Act 2022.

RM500,000

Maximum fine under the OSH Amendment Act 2022 for non-compliance with a DOSH improvement notice.

The number of dedicated safety sign suppliers in Labuan — before Layang.

The risk is real. The supplier, until now, was in KL. That has changed.

SOUND FAMILIAR?

The Labuan Problem Every
Business Owner Recognises

You need safety signs. a JKR audit flagged your safety signage last Tuesday, or an Oil & Gas site inspection is scheduled next month. So you go online, find a supplier in Kuala Lumpur, and place the order. Three weeks later, two signs arrive with the wrong dimensions. You send them back. You wait another week. The re-inspection date does not wait with you.

Or you installed them yourself and passed the visual check — but when the DOSH officer asked to see your sign register and compliance file, you had a folder of invoices and a blank look.

None of this happens when your safety sign supplier is in Labuan.
WHY LAYANG

We Are Here.
Your Signs Are Ready Today.

Layang Printing & Signage is based in Labuan. Our workshop, our team, and our stock are all here — not in Selangor, not in Puchong, not somewhere that ships on a three-day freight schedule.

When you need safety signs — whether tomorrow morning before a JKR re-inspection or two weeks before a planned DOSH audit — we can have your signs supplied, installed, and documented before the inspector walks through the door. We supply the right signs, matched to JKR and Oil & Gas (PETRONAS) requirements for your workplace type, and we hand you the compliance file that proves it.

That is the difference between a passed inspection and a RM500,000 improvement notice.

GEOGRAPHY USP

Every Other Supplier Is in KL. We Are Not.

A May 2026 audit of "safety signage supplier Malaysia" returned the same result it has for years: all eight top-ranked suppliers are in Peninsular Malaysia. When you order from them, your signs travel by air or ferry freight — three to five business days, and your inspection window may pass. Layang is physically in Labuan. Order by 10am, install the same afternoon.

THE RIGHT STANDARD

MS ISO 7010 —
The Standard DOSH Uses, Not the European One

When DOSH officers conduct a workplace safety audit in Malaysia, they reference MS ISO 7010 — the Malaysian Standard for safety colours and signs, adopted by the Department of Standards Malaysia. Many sign suppliers — including the highest-ranked on Google — cite BS 5378 (a British Standard) or European directives. These are not what a DOSH inspector audits against in a Malaysian workplace.

Every sign Layang supplies is specified to MS ISO 7010, with categories applied correctly: Mandatory (blue), Prohibition (red), Warning (yellow/black), Emergency (green), Fire Equipment (red). The standard reference is included in your compliance file. Under MS 2558:2022, mandatory signs are supplied bilingual — Bahasa Malaysia and English — as standard.

Frequently Asked Questions

What safety signs are legally required for my Labuan business? +

It depends on your business type and premises. For most commercial premises, JKR requires approved safety, fire, and hazard signage on its sites, and Oil & Gas (PETRONAS) operators require HSE-compliant signage to their technical standards. For workplaces with employees, DOSH requires additional mandatory, warning, and prohibition signs. The simplest way to know exactly what you need is to call us — we ask four questions and give you the complete list at no charge.

What is the fine for not having proper safety signs? +

Under the OSH (Amendment) Act 2022, failure to comply with a DOSH improvement notice carries a maximum fine of RM500,000 or two years imprisonment. For JKR-approved sites and Oil & Gas (PETRONAS) operators, non-compliant safety signage can hold up site approval and HSE sign-off. Enforcement has increased with the OSH Master Plan 2026–2030.

How quickly can you supply safety signs in Labuan? +

For standard signs from our Labuan stock, same-day supply is available for urgent JKR or Oil & Gas needs. For custom signs, bulk orders, or full-site compliance packages, typically one to three business days. We will not tell you "two weeks" when we can deliver tomorrow.

What is a sign register, and do I need one? +

A sign register is a formal document listing every safety sign — type, MS ISO 7010 category, location, installation date, and replacement date. DOSH auditors commonly request it. If you cannot produce one, it creates an audit gap even if your physical signs are in place. Every Layang compliance package includes a completed sign register.

What is MS ISO 7010 and why does it matter? +

MS ISO 7010 is the Malaysian Standard for safety colours and signs, adopted by the Department of Standards Malaysia. DOSH auditors work to this standard. Some Peninsula competitors cite BS 5378 or European directives — not what your DOSH inspector references. All Layang signs are specified to MS ISO 7010, with the citation in your compliance file.

Do my signs need to be in both Bahasa Malaysia and English? +

Yes. Under MS 2558:2022, mandatory safety signs must include text in both Bahasa Malaysia and English where text is used. All Layang signs with text content are supplied bilingual as standard.

Can you supply safety signs for construction sites? +

Yes. We supply the full construction bundle: the JKR / CIDB project signboard, Oil & Gas-compliant safety signs, and GHS chemical labels for hazardous storage. One order, one Labuan delivery, one invoice. Call us with your site type and project stage.

Do Not Wait Until Your Inspection Is Tomorrow.

JKR can withhold your Certificate of Fitness. DOSH can issue a RM500,000 improvement notice. We remove that exposure — the right signs, installed, with the compliance file that proves it. Send us a WhatsApp with your workplace type and we will respond within 2 hours.
